Customer Comments

When attending boat shows Calyber boats have often been called by the visitors who swing by the stand for the second time "The prettiest boat in the Show."

Ron Penska Testimonial

I visited the "Kitty Hawk" N.C. plant in the fall 2004 to look at the center console models. While being extremely impressed by the center console, under construction were 3 express boats in various stages of completion, which immediately grabbed my attention. After a brief tour by Jim Murphy (sales executive) and Trevor (chief & builder), I was hooked on the design, construction, fit & finish, and of course the "Carolina flare" of the 25’ express.  I went under contract in Nov. 2004, and began frequent visits (from N.J.) to watch the boat being built, then onto the new plant in Edenton N.C. for finish and completion. During all my visits the staff at Calyber went out of their way to illustrate, educate and took all the time needed to provide any and all information required to satisfy me, the customer. Customer relationships are one of the strong points at Calyber, second only to the quality of the product. Sea trials took place after completion in April, 2005; delivery was made to N.J. in May 2005.

All of our boating takes place off the southern N.J. shore. Anyone who is familiar with sea conditions in the Canyons off N.J. knows that it is rough and far to the fishing grounds. A 12 hr. day and 120-150 nautical miles is routine and I'm here to tell you, the boat performs flawlessly, with one exception, you tend to forget that it is still only a 27' boat, (actual centerline measurement from bow to end of motors is 29 ft.)

Calyber has built a magnificent small boat with big boat features found in custom 45-50 ft. vessels. The Carolina 'CLASSIC FLARE', huge beam, deadrise, cockpit layout, all contribute to the beautiful lines of a custom boat. The finish work such as; teak toerails, teak cockpit, hardtop, aluminum welding, pop-up consoles; etc, are exceptionally crafted by dedicated personnel.

I could go on and on, but my point is that I give Calyber Boatworks my highest recommendation, and at any time I would be more than willing to assist Calyber with any questions or references to potential new customers.

 Sincerely, Ron Penska

Jim,  Thanks for the recommendation on Bimini Twist.  We met with Ron and Todd last weekend and fell in love with the boat.  We were able to sea trial the boat, taking it out into the inlet in Avalon, N.J. we had 5-7 footers and she handled exceptionally.  We cruised through the bay and loved the ride and the way she settled into the sea and carved turns without sliding was also commendable.  We settled yesterday and are picking up the boat on Thursday.  It WILL be in Ocean City MD next week fishing the canyons.  Many thanks once again...  If you guys have any tee’s send them as we will be glad to represent Calyber in Maryland and the Annapolis/ Eastern Shore area.

Thanks once again,
Kirk Helfenbein

Toby LaVigne Testimonial

I am so excited about what you guys have created, I just had write testimonial. I could have saved a lot of time and effort if I knew 2 years ago, what I know now!

I carefully researched over a dozen express sport fishing yachts in the mid 30 range before placing my order with Calyber for their new 35. My decision was based upon the quality of workmanship, comfort, fishability, seakeeping, and the quality of the sales process.

Throughout the process Jim was patient and helpful. I already own their first hull, a ’22 mini express, so I was familiar with the quality of their construction. The only unknown for me was how their new hull and the Volvo IPS propulsion system would work.

The results are incredible! I have always admired the Carolina flare, but I have to admit that I didn’t understand the finer details of its design until I sea trialed it. It cuts through the water and rides through chop with incredible comfort.

The Volvo IPS system is a major breakthrough. It is everything they claim it is; it accelerates faster, it’s more responsive, it’s clearly better on fuel, it’s quiet and there is no diesel exhaust smell. And around the dock, the joystick system is incredible. The joystick moves the boat exactly how you want it to, no lag, no over reaction, it just simply works.

Trevor’s layout makes incredible use of every inch of the boat. And the building team’s workmanship is ‘high end yacht quality’. I don’t mean any disrespect to the other builders I researched, but if you want the best, Calyber is the choice. Toby LaVigne
